My Very Loud Joints
For some unknown reason, I have very loud joints that like to crack all the time. Here is a list of my joints that crack in order of most to least frequently:
1. Kneecaps - pretty much every time I squat down, my knees pop very loudly, causing concern among the people around me.
2. Back - my back cracks a lot. I think it cracks more now than it used to, because I spend all day sitting down at a desk and I'm not as active as I once was. Recently, the cracking of my back has migrated downwards; it still cracks in the middle area like normal, but now the lower portion of my spine also cracks. Sometimes it feels like my lower spine is just clunking around down there. Also, sometimes I crack my back over the back of the chair I'm sitting in, and then it hurts and I can't sit back up for a few seconds without immense pain. As I wrote this, the top part of my spine also cracked. He didn't want to feel left out, I guess.
3. Hamstrings - I know these aren't joints, but they pop so loud when I kick.
4. Leg Hinges - now, I'm not sure whether the popping in this area comes from actual joints or just loud tendons (do tendons pop?), but there's definitely more than one popping noise that can happen when I kick high.
5. Knuckles - I am not a habitual knuckle cracker; I do not enjoy the noise or the sensation, but every so often I'll crack the knuckles in my pointer fingers. Eh. Also, getting a knuckle cracked by accident is one of the worst feelings, but it happens sometimes.
6. Jaw - This is the worst one for sure. Being a singer, I've become fairly in touch with my jaw and its general wellbeing. I tend to carry a lot of tension in my jaw, especially when I'm stressed about things, so I do a lot of wiggling it from side to side to try and relieve some of this tension. Occasionally, this can result in a startling and rather painful pop in the jaw area. Bad.
7. Ankles - this hasn't happened in a while, but when I did a lot of yoga (instead of gym in high school), half the time I went into child's pose, my ankles would crack as I released into the position. Not fun, but didn't really hurt that much.
These are all the loud joints (and others) I can think of right now. Consider this my formal apology to anyone who has been startled by my knees cracking very loudly.
